January 2020 Blog

Welcome to our school blog, here you will find a snapshot of events taking place at Legh Vale on a weekly basis from Nursery to Y6.

Week Commencing: 27th January 2020

We have been 'Super Scientists' in Y5M by investigating insulators.

Y5S have been evaluating sets of instructions in Literacy. We learned how to play several card games following sets of instructions and then discussed the positive and negative features of each!

Year 4D enjoyed training with the Saints rugby coaches!

Year 1 had a fantastic time learning some new football skills with David Campbell Soccer. They had lots of fun dribbling, catching and heading the ball.

Year 6 used jigsaws to revise how to use semi-colons in their writing.

Nursery children are becoming much more independent taking turns and playing games.

Nursery children celebrated The Chinese New Year by dancing, playing instruments and pretending to be a dragon.

Y4F loved their first rugby session with the Saints coaches. We practised throwing, catching and intercepting skills.

Y3K had a great time visiting the art exhibition and taking part in different memorial activities at Christ Church.

Week Commencing: 20th January 2020

Y5M Maths class demonstrated their knowledge of identifying angles on their tables. They did a fantastic job!

Nursery children explored the environment and investigated whether materials were attracted to the magnet or not.

Y4F enjoyed investigating circuits this week. We were all able to make our bulbs light in a simple circuit.

Y2PM explored different ways to travel over, under and around whilst also incorporating rolls and turns.

Y6 completed a self-portrait using only one continuous line! It was tricky, but the children have noticed an improvement in their observation skills.

Y5S have been learning about soluble and insoluble materials in Science!

In D.T, Y3K have designed, created and evaluated their Stone Age style necklaces. We think they look great!

Y1JL have been enjoying learning about the differences between fiction and non fiction books. They were brilliant at sorting them into the correct piles.

Week Commencing: 13th January 2020

Y5M demonstrated how brilliant they are at working scientifically when investigating the absorbency of different materials.

Y5S have enjoyed carrying out a science experiment to investigate which materials are the most absorbent.

Reception have loved using our new role play 'Doctors Surgery'. They have taken on the different roles and learnt about how different parts of their body work.

Nursery children have been learning about animals which live in the Polar regions. We have been cutting out various shapes to make snowmen.

Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed reading along to our story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.

Y2PM worked together on a collage to retell the story of creation.

Y6 had a fantastic day at Tatton Park to experience what life was like during WW2 as an evacuee. They learned about life on a farm during the war, experienced an air raid and investigated using an open fire to make toast in a WW2 kitchen.

Nursery welcomed new friends this week. We had lots of fun.

Y4F thoroughly enjoyed teaching Reception some basic computer skills this week. The children learned so much from the Year 4 pupils, it was a lovely afternoon.

Y3K have been using chalk and oil pastels to recreate their own cave paintings.

Week Commencing: 7th January 2020

Reception have enjoyed using different technology in school this week. We had a lovely visit to the ICT suite where Y4D helped us to use the computers.

Miss Matthews's maths group enjoyed using fraction walls to compare the size of different fractions.

Y5S have enjoyed learning about shapes and their properties in Maths.

Y3K have been busy investigating 3D shape properties this week. They've even built some of their own using spaghetti and marshmallows.

Y1CF have been using an Atlas to locate the Arctic and the Antarctic.

Y3C loved turning our classroom into a Stone Age cave, sending coded messages and creating cave art!

Y1JL have been using their knowledge of number to find all the different ways to make 8. They went on to work out how to use this to make 18!
