February 2020 Blog

February 2020 Blog

Welcome to our school blog, here you will find a snapshot of events taking place at Legh Vale on a weekly basis from Nursery to Y6.

Week Commencing: 24th February 2020

In Geography, Y5M worked together to investigate the continents and their countries using globes and atlases.

Y5H worked against the clock in Maths today; the children worked in teams to pair fractions with their corresponding decimal value.

To help build on our knowledge of factor pairs, Y4F enjoyed making different product arrays this week in Maths.

Y2PM really enjoyed their first cricket lesson with coach Chris.

The British Legion Veterans, presented Legh Vale with a certificate for raising the most funds of all schools in St Helens for the Poppy Appeal.

In R.E., Y3 enjoyed retelling the story of how Jesus chose his disciples.

As part of our topic of materials, Y5M explored different ways to separate materials including evaporation, condensation, filtration and magnetism. The children demonstrated how they can be creative and problem solve as well as work scientifically. Well done!

Exciting news in Year 5! Over the holidays, two of our team got married. We surprised the brides and the children with a surprise celebration to share the happy news. Welcome Mrs Bayliss (Mrs Middlehurst) and Mrs Honey (Miss Sanderson). Congratulations from all at Legh Vale!

Week Commencing: 10th February 2020

Y5M have been working hard this half term in gymnastics. They finished the topic by creating a group performance incorporating their skills. This included mirroring, matching, cannon and unison sequences of a variety of jumps.

Y5S have enjoyed exploring reversible and irreversible reactions in Science!

Year Two investigated how blubber helps to keep animals warm in the icy waters of the Arctic regions.

Y3C loved designing and measuring out our own Celtic Roundhouses this week.  We couldn't believe the differences between them and our houses in 2020!

Y1L enjoyed trying to build igloos with ice.  They then investigated where the ice melted the quickest. They found out that the ice melted the quickest inside the classroom.

Y3K have been learning the numbers 1-20 in French. They have enjoyed creating actions for each number.

Week Commencing: 3rd February 2020

More super science work in Y5M investigating reversible and irreversible changes.

Y5M English were taken back in time by Bess, the landlord's daughter, from 'The Highwayman'.

Y5S have enjoyed incorperating equipment into their gymnastics routines this week. We also included cannons and unison within our team sequences!

Year 6 worked on their gymnastics skills during PE. They perfected their balancing, movement and vaulting.

Y3K have been learning about the Celts. They have tried their hardest to be as fierce and as frightening as they were.

Y2PM enjoyed taking on the roles of newsreaders and survivors of the Titanic during news time.

Y4F enjoyed playing games in Maths this week, which helped with our addition, subtraction and place value skills.
