March 2020 Blog

March 2020 Blog

Welcome to our school blog, here you will find a snapshot of events taking place at Legh Vale on a weekly basis from Nursery to Y6.

Week Commencing: 16th March 2020

Year 5 have been learning how to play another exciting team game- Handball. All children demonstrated excellent team work and are developing their skills every week. They also showed great sportsmanship by congratulating each other with friendly 'elbow touches' instead of handshakes. Well done everyone!

Year 4D are already very excited about our new P.E equipment!

Year six pupils thoroughly enjoyed our microorganism work. Using glitter and hand gel, the children learned how germs can easily spread from one person to the next.

A huge thank you to each and every person that collected Aldi stickers last term. Without you, we would not have this brand new equipment for our school. We can't wait to use it in our P.E lessons.

Y5H have enjoyed creating their own newspaper articles during Literacy this week. They surrounded Harry Potter's first Quidditch game!

Week Commencing: 9th March 2020

Our Year 5 After School Science club have had 3 weeks of practical science fun. Check out our gallery for more images.

What an exciting morning Y3K and Y5B English groups had sharing Y3 report writing and peer assessing. Well done everyone!

Year 1 carried out an 'egg'citing 'eggs'periment for Science Week. They were amazed by the results, as was Mrs Leicester.

Y3K have enjoyed taking part in investigations as part of Science Week. See the gallery for more photos.

Y5H have enjoyed dissecting a flower in Science to find out more about a plant's structure.

Y1JL have enjoyed comparing things of different lengths. Here, the girls are comparing the length of their shoes!

Y5B used lolly sticks and magnifying glasses to dissect and look closely to identify the different parts of a flower.

Y2PM ordered events from the life of Neil Armstrong before presenting and filming their own documentaries.

Please look at the gallery for more photographs.

Y3C were fascinated by the ancient Roman artefacts we explored this week, to start off our new History topic.  We can't wait to discover more!

Nursery children joined Reception and KS1 for a parade for World Book Day.

Y6A Maths class used cubes to explore whether shapes with different length, width and depth could still have the same volume.

Week Commencing: 2nd March 2020

World Book Day 2020

What an amazing effort by the children and staff!

The celebrations are sure to continue throughout the day with themed activities which aim to promote the importance of reading.

Year 4 had a wonderful time at the Totally Wicked Stadium for their 'Sky Try Experience'. We learned so much about the heritage of the club, how to lead a healthier lifestyle and practised some of our rugby skills with the coaches.

Here is a picture of our triumphant Y3/4 Sportshall Athletics squad who represented Legh Vale so admirably. We were allowed to enter two teams into the competition and our children managed to come first and second out of eleven schools! Well done to all involved.

Year 4 showcased their amazing robots this week. They were all truly fantastic! So much thought and effort was put in to each and every design. The other pupils and staff were astounded by the efforts and creativity of the children.

Year 5 visited Haydock High School and participated in STEM activities. The topic of the sessions was Asteroids and the children explored this through computing, science and engineering tasks. Excellent problem solving and collaboration Year 5!

Year 3 have been studying how and why earthquakes happen. They have worked together to create their own earthquake proof buildings.

Y3C showed fantastic teamwork this week, as they designed and made 'earthquake proof' buildings... some even survived the powerful quakes when they struck!

Year 6 enjoyed our 'book cafe', where the children had hot chocolate and sampled a range of non-fiction and fiction books.

Y5H have been separating different materials in Science! We used various techniques to do this including, filtration, evaporation and magnetisation.

Year 1 really enjoyed Zumba this week. It was a great way to exercise and also have lots of fun on a wet & rainy afternoon!
