September 2020 Blog

Welcome to our school blog, here you will find a snapshot of events taking place at Legh Vale on a weekly basis from Nursery to Y6.

Week Commencing: 28th September 2020

Y2RB loved taking part in our Science handwashing experiment!

Y4H really enjoyed taking part in a range of fitness tasks as part of their PE lessons.

Y5H have had a class debate in English this week. We discussed the ending of our class story 'The Egyptian Cinderella' and looked at whether it was a positive or negative ending for the main character. There were some fantastic viewpoints!

Year 6 have enjoyed revising how to order numbers with up to 6 digits.

In Art, Y5K have been learning how to blend with chalk pastels. They've created some very impressive River Nile images.

Nursery children enjoyed role playing, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt.' They were so excited as they found a bear in a tree in the woods.

Week Commencing: 21st September 2020

This week Y2RB have really enjoyed designing and making fruit kebabs as part of our 'Healthy Humans' topic.

In Computing, Y3C became human robots and their programmers, to discover how algorithms work.

Y5K have been learning lots of new skills in hockey during their PE lessons.

Week Commencing: 14th September 2020

This week in English, Y5H have been looking at comparative sentences. We used the IPads to research the ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses and discussed their similarities and differences. After this, we used comparative conjunctions to link our clauses together.

This week in Y4H, we have been looking at the properties of solids, liquids and gases. We began the lesson by sorting a range of images into three groups, one for each of the states of matter.

Y5K have created their own abstract style portraits using oil pastels.

Nursery children have been learning about the Solar System and made the planets using papier-mâché. They enjoyed the sensory experience and washed their hands immediately afterwards.

Y3C were surprised in English, when they thought they had perfectly matched characters appearances to their personalities, I asked them to muddle them up... we now know that looks can be deceiving and created some fantastic characters to show this.

Week Commencing: 7th September 2020

Y5H have enjoyed learning about the skill of estimation in Maths this week!

Y5K enjoyed creating their own classroom charter.

Y3C have been experimenting with colour this week.  Staring with just the three Primary colours, we mixed paints, pastels and food dye in shaving foam.  We were amazed with our results!
