October 2020 Blog

October 2020

Welcome to our school blog, here you will find a snapshot of events taking place at Legh Vale on a weekly basis from Nursery to Y6.

Week Commencing: 19th October 2020

Nursery children used various collage materials to make their scarecrows. See how many Scarecrows you can find during the Willowbrook Hospice Scarecrow Festival.

Y5H have enjoyed mummifying apples this week! We loved learning about this ancient Egyptian process of preservation and will write our instructions on it later this week.

Year 3 enjoyed forming starbursts into different types of rock.  They learnt the difference between igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks.

In Y5K this week, we have been preserving and mummifying apples. The children could explain the steps of mummification and ordered them correctly.

Week Commencing: 12th October 2020

In History, Y5K have enjoyed learning all about the mummification process. They worked incredibly hard writing their own reports on it.

Y5H have continued to learn about the ancient Egyptians in History this week. We have been looking at hieroglyphs and have created our own cartouches!

Nursery children chalked around object's shadows. Then we drew around the children's shadows. We compared the length of the children to their shadows. The following day we noticed we had no shadows as it was too cloudy.

Nursery children thoroughly enjoyed role-playing Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Y3C made our own Frobscottle this week, then wrote the instructions in the form of a recipe.

In Art, Y4H have been experimenting and evaluating different Pointillism techniques.

Week Commencing: 5th October 2020

Y5H have enjoyed brushing up on their subtraction skills in Maths!

Nursery children enjoyed squelching through the mud to the 'forest'. We read the story 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. Later we learned the words to the song 'When Goldilocks went to the House of the Bears.'

In Maths, Y5K have been working on rounding numbers to the nearest 10,100 and 1000. They enjoyed their time matching the nearest 10s, 100s and 1000s in the computer suite.
